What do black bears, colored lights, and tug-o-war contests have in common? All of them, at one time, made their home in Athens’ John Wilson Park. In the early 1950’s Bill and Wilma Wilson donated the land on which John Wilson Park now sits. In 1955, when the Wilson’s son John died, the new park was named in his honor.
Fun Fact
These days, the park hosts a slightly tamer summer event: the Athens Farmers’ Market, which takes place every Friday from June through September.
