Imagine: the year is 1883, and the entire west side of Athens’ Main Street is ablaze. Among the many buildings destroyed in the fire was the Athens’ Masonic Lodge 220. In 1884, the Masons built a second lodge across the street, but it too was destroyed by fire in 1900. Following that fire, the Masons built the temple that still stands today.
Fun Fact
The Athens Masonic Temple was constructed by the same builder as the Battle Creek Sanitarium.
